IN ITS THIRTIETH YEAR, LMU FINDS
A PERMANENT HOME
A
dream came true for Lift Me Up! in this, its thirtieth year
of operations. On Valentine’s Day, Lift Me Up! completed
the purchase of the property and the indoor arena located
at 9704 Georgetown Pike, adjacent to our current location.
Acquisition of a permanent home with an indoor riding facility
has long been a goal for LMU. As a result of this transaction,
LMU will be able to offer year-round therapeutic riding instruction
in all types of weather, and to expand our program offerings
to include the many remaining on our program's waiting list.
In addition, LMU will be able to serve as a site for ongoing
research and training in the field of therapeutic riding;
we’ve already scheduled a hippotherapy seminar for therapeutic
riding professionals with prominent Occupational Therapist
Claudia Morin on Level 1 Equine and Treatment Principles.

In connection with
the program’s transition to our new indoor facility,
we are pleased to welcome the following privately-owned horses
and their people to the barn:
· Brandy
and Andy and Callie Briscoe
· Avatar and Amy Peterson
· Winnie and Anne Busseniers
· Fantastic and Thomas Moorehead
· Cookie and Emily and Tina Cobb
We welcome the opportunity to
get to know these families and their horses better, and to
share with them our community of committed riders, volunteers,
and staff. For the safety of all participants, please adhere
to posted guidelines and barn rules and regulations regarding
all of the horses on the property, particularly with respect
to areas and activities that are off-limits to program participants
(including stalls and turnout areas). We ask that you refrain
from feeding, touching, or otherwise interacting with any
of the horses on the property except with appropriate supervision
and permission.
LMU wishes to extend its most
sincere thanks to Flo and Harry Dougherty, who have given
the program roots and wings as our hosts for the past 20+
years. Their multifaceted and unwavering support has been
pivotal to the program’s continued viability, vibrancy,
and growth. We look forward to working with the Doughertys
in the future, now as their next-door neighbors!
Many thanks also go to you,
our community of riders, families, volunteers, staff, and
supporters. We look forward to welcoming you all to our new
facility, and to working together to build an even more vibrant
therapeutic riding community.
